I am a bit dissapointed in the new Anne Rice interviews. She created these characters, she created this world of fantasy in the real world.
Now she is all redeemed and back to being a Catholic and now she wants to convert her vampires too. Agh...
I wrote a Essay on this woman. I did the research and I knew her lack of faith created those worlds and characters. I could actaully see that Lestat was her, trying to find some sense of peace and faith but I never ever thought she would go and reform (him)

It's sad... :-( Not because she returned to her faith, but because now she feels guilty to write about this world!
Why oh why does Christianity bestow so much guilt on people?!
I just don't get it. Shouldn't your belief let you go free to do what you want and to do what you love?! I don't get it.

Sorry to all my Christian friends. I was Christian once. I was in a Christian school, it was spoon fed to me for 8 hours a day for 8 years... I know ALL about it. I know how it SHOULD be, but why are there some groups that feel guilt and fear God?
Anne Rice seems to fall in to the later group which is a shame.
She says she is not ashamed of her books that she wrote in the past, but she sees it as a path way that lead her to her faith, then WHY not honor this path?!!?
Yeah now that she is rich she doesn't need it any more.

Catholic vampires? LOL!!!!!!

I still consider myself a christian at this point but..... I have a lot to write about that... one day. Right now I'm kinda in between believing everything and nothing, if that makes sense.

Her vampires were so sexy and she had so many dark themes in her books (I haven't read that many, I really just remember tale of the body thief at this point) and so much wonderful decadence... I'm sorry if she feels ashamed of that. Time to go dig the books out of the basement and re-read them!

Oh, and I agree with you - I cherish everything that's happened to me no matter how bad or awful, because I'm the sum total of that and I'm happy with who I am. I don't think a lot of people get that?

You are not the first person to tell me that. In fact, a friend of mine, who is a huge Rice fan, told me the exact same thing that what you said in your first paragraph.

I don't get it either, but its her life and her opinion. I wonder if this had anything to do with the death of her son? I've seen the death of someone very close make some people get quite religious and others turn atheist/agnostic. Perhaps if she took a "that was me then, this is me now" appoach to her writing, it would not leave her fans dismayed. It could be worse if she was one of those people who were involved with the darker side of life, then "found God" and said that everything they used to do was Satanic.

TRue, at least she doesnt'say it is Satanic.
I think that losing a loved one can definately have a huge impact on religious views. I lost someone and it made me give up on the Christian God completely. I found so much comfort in Wicca instead. I think the Christian views are just so black and white. You can't go and renounce things that you once loved, rather embrace it.

I don't get it either.
Any religion that puts fear into people's hearts is, in my opinion, wrong.
My grandmother is "gereformeerd" and she's so scared of dying and going to hell. My grandmother is a good person, she's not going to hell, yet the people in her church tell her she is. That's just SO wrong.

It is so sad, it makes me want to cry. Really it does.
Christianity should be light and wonderful, that is how it was meant to be!

Aw, that's a shame. She might be taking this all a bit seriously, but it is fantasy/fiction. It's not like she created real vampires who are really killing people. It's fiction, so it hurts nobody. But who knows what is going on in her head. In any case, I hope she gets it worked out, so she can have more positive thoughts than just feeling guilty. Guilt is only productive if it spurs you on to take a step....just feeling guilty in itself solves nothing.

Why would she rewrite and reform her characters!?!?! They're wonderful the way they are. And it's her PAST...if she wants to be Christian...great. I know she's written books based on her new faith...keep it at that. Guilt shouldn't even be a factor... Maybe she's in the wrong denomination? Being Christian should be understanding and forgiveness...not guilt and regret. Ya know?

*HUGS*
